Introduction !

In Pandrung and Masal of Gorkha District in Nepal most of the children who are in government schools have lots of difficulties to study. Sometimes, some of them haven't school bags, school dresses and what is the main problem, no book and stationery. Because of these lacks, lots of students don't dare to go to school every day. They can't study in good conditions. So that it's a serious problem about their education.

Grace Home is concerned with this problem and has a desire to provide the poorest and helpless children providing all their basic needs to go to school in a better way. That's why; Grace Home wants to start "Education for all" project. The aim of this project is to help all kids above 4 years to attend the school. For that, two things are the most important to be developed: First, a sole help for the poorest children by providing them the most important materials like pencils, books, etc. And, in the same time, to make parents to be concerned with their children's education. That's why, it's necessary to conduct an awareness program to explain the importance of education in order to make parents send their children to school regularly.

Duration of the Project

The duration of the project will be for one year for the 1st phase. The extension of the project for the 2nd phase (after 1 year) is subjected to be determined upon the level of its achievement during the first phase and availability of the funds required for the continuity. It is anticipated that the project will be initiated by 1st February 2007 and will be accomplished by the end of January 2008.

Project Area

The proposed project areas will be implemented in 13 schools in Pandrung and Masel VDCs at Gorkha District of Nepal.

Project Beneficiaries

The intended project beneficiaries will be the impoverished and vulnerable children of Dalits (lower caste people) and Janajatis (the ethnic groups) in the project area. 100 children of Dalits and Janajatis will be directly supported by scholarships, dresses, books & stationeries and tuition fees whereas 1000 students of Dalits and Janajatis dominant school in the project area will be indirectly supported by educational and sport materials at school levels.

Project Goal and Objectives

The overall goal of the project is to provide better educational opportunities to the vulnerable children of Ethnics and Dalits and to reduce school dropouts in the project area, however the specific objectives of the project area are mentioned below,

Provide better educational opportunities to the impoverished and vulnerable children of Dalits and Janajatis (Lower caste and Ethnic groups) through provision of scholarships, school dresses, books and stationary supports, tuition fees etc. in the project area.


To reduce
the existing high rates of school dropouts of the children especially from the Ethnic and Dalit communities through provision of scholarships, school dresses, books and stationary supports, tuition fees etc. in the project area.

To provide better
learning environment for the children through provision of educational and sport materials in Dalit and Janajati dominant schools in the project area.


Proposed Project Activities

So as to achieve aforesaid objectives and meet the outputs, the following activities have been proposed to be undertaken,

Identification of The Project Beneficiaries:

The intended project beneficiaries will be identified by making intensive school survey in the project area. In course of identifying the beneficiaries from the respective schools in the project area, the list of Dalits and Janajatis children will be prepared by the consultation with the headmasters and other teachers in respective schools. Having enlisted their names, a priority list will be made for selecting them as intended beneficiaries. The intensive consultation with school teachers, school management committees will also be made in this endeavor.

Provision of Scholarships:

At least 50 vulnerable children of Dalits and Jananties will be provided scholarships to help maximum enrolment of children from these communities and better educational opportunities in the project area.

Provision of School Dresses And Bags:

At least 50 vulnerable children of Dalits and Janajatis will be provided school dresses and bags in the project area.

Provision of Books And Stationeries:

At least 50 vulnerable children will be provided books and stationeries in the project area.

Provision of Tuition Fees:

At least 50 children will be provided tuition fees in the project area.

Parental Orientations for Enrolment Of Children At School:

At least 20 orientations at cluster/community levels will be provided so as to convince and educate the parents in sending their children at schools. These orientations will be carried out at the beginning of the sessions in the project area.

Educational and Sports Materials Support:

At least 10 schools in the project area will be supported by educational and sports materials.

Follow Up and Supervision:

The project activities will be regularly followed up and monitored in monthly regular basis by the field supervisor appointed by the organization.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

The project activities will be regularly monitored and evaluated in quarterly regular bases having devised standard formats in the project area.

Reporting:

The project will prepare and submit the progress report in quarterly basis having devised standard formats. The project will establish a strong and precise reporting system for the timely report of the progress with different aspects of the program till the previous quarter, work during current quarter and cumulative progress both in physical and financial parts. This will enable to monitor functioning and progress of the program and the corrective measures to be taken wherever needed.
